Default selective herbicides: Liriope and Japanese Stilt Grass- bamboo ?

Would appreciate any suggestions on selective herbicides that work
well to remove grasses invading Liriope (Monkey Grass). We have
an especially heavy invasion of stilt grass this year, it grows
everywhere. Will the typical grass killers like Poast or Grass-B-Gon
work on this grass, and spare the Liriope? I am almost at the point
of wiping it ALL out, if it gets the stilt grass too..
Thanks

After trying to figure it out myself, I found a herbicide called Ornamec. It
deals with stilt grass and is a "spray over the top" herbicide that doesn't
affect several ornamentals but it does kill the stilt grass.

See the article http://www.ppws.vt.edu/weeds/Microstegium.pdf for more details.
Ornamec is available at the John Deere Landscaping Supply in the Triangle area.
A pint costs around $25 and makes about five gallons of spray when diluted.
Not cheap but it works.

You didn't say the type of liriope you had. I have used 1% roundup over the
top of certain varieties of liriope. This does not apply to variegated
varieties. Also try using a sponge or rope wick applicator to apply to
grass that is taller than the liriope.

I've had some success with a herbicide made by Bayer. I don't remember the
name of it, but I bought it at Lowes. I tried "Weed Stop" and "Weed-B-Gone"
without any luck against stilt grass.

good luck,
philip

POST - it only kills grass and you can spray it directly on liriope or your
azaleas etc...

for NEXT year
apply a good preemergent fertilizer - like scotts halts

the jap grass is an annual..
