Arborvitae Trees
Does anyone know any websites to get some in depth information regarding
Arborvitae trees, particular Emerald Green specimen? I have already checked with the cooperative extension. They seem to have more on Leyland Cypress and others. My particular problem is that I planted 4 around May/June and they were all growing and doing fine. About 2-3 weeks ago I began noticing 2 of them turning a yellowish color and now some browning is starting to occur. They have been receiving plenty of water, both from rainfall and from my neighbor's sprinkler system, which is only inches away. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. |
Arborvitae Trees
Your problem is that they are probably receiving too much water or sitting
in standing water. Any plant, whether houseplant or outside plant, will turn yellow and brown out when it is sitting in too much water. You may have to clip out the brown spots and let the new growth come back in this coming spring. The problem is usually that the clay soil holds water at the roots and basically drowns the plant. Imagine that plants/trees are like us. They need oxygen and water, but they can drown if left in water all the time. You can try using an auger to drill deep holes around the perimeter of the root system to allow water to escape. This summer has been hell on many plants and drainage areas. This is the case for a wide variety of trees/plants, not just the Arborvitae. I hope this helps. You may see improvement next season when the roots get deeper into the soil through this winter and we have some drier conditions. Good luck. Penny "cooleyd" wrote in message ...
