Default Squash and Cucumber bugs - help

My squash and cucumbers were doing great until about a week ago when I
started noticing white grubs boring into the vegetables and destroying them.
I tried spraying with BT but now it seems the squash has stopped fruiting
and the cucumbers aren't doing so well.

Does anyone know what these bugs are and what to do about them? Any tips on
how to prevent them next year?

Thanks,

Robert

I had the same problem with my cucumbers a couple of weeks ago. I had to
apply Bt (liquid) 3 times because the rain kept washing it before it had a
chance to really kill them off. I also suddenly got inundated with fuzzy
caterpillars all over my tomatoes. They looked like tent caterpillars and
were boring into and hollowing out all my tomatoes (even my grape tomatoes).

As of a few days ago, I haven't spotted any more. My cucumbers are now
improving again and starting to flower. You may also be depleted on
fertilizer. Sometimes toward the end of the summer, plants need
refertilizing to get them back up and running again.

I've encountered hornworms (usually every year), but this is the first time
I've ever had a problem with caterpillars devouring cucumbers and tomatoes.
It may be caused by all the rain we've had this summer.

I honestly don't know what the name of the caterpillars are. Some were very
tiny and others were sort of fat (1-1.5" long), black furry with a blue
stripe down the back. If anyone else here knows what they are, please feel
free to let us know.

Good luck.

Thanks,

The bugs I have are white, about 3/4 - 1 inch long. I'll try some more BT,
maybe the plants can make a comeback.
