It must be the day for eggs...

I was trimming stuff in my front yard when I came across these eggs in the
pine straw - http://home.earthlink.net/~ch_geekette/eggs.jpg

They're about the size of chicken eggs, and faintly aqua. Ducks? Our lot
backs up to Bond Lake, but these are in the ~front~ yard within feet of our
neighbor's driveway.

I did see a pair of ducks cross the road a few days ago (first time in 10+
years I've seen them not on the lake).

Beth,

They look like duck eggs. Duck eggs are often blue or green.

If the female starts sitting, that will answer your question.

Usually birds will lay as many eggs as they can easily cover, one egg a day,
then start sitting on them. This is why you can collect eggs for a week or
more and put them all in the incubator at once and have them hatch all at
the same time (in other words, incubation starts when they receive the right
body heat, rather than when they are laid). Nests on the ground attract
predators, so the eggs could be stolen or the female herself killed. Maybe
the road will be busy enough to discourage coons, possum, and foxes.....

Good luck! laurie (Mother Mastiff)
