Default Tricyrtis advice

Howdy everyone.
I'd like to ask for some advice. Last fall I bought a Tricyrtis "Tojen"
for my patio garden and I was delighted by the beauty of its flowers.
It is planted in a 12" pot on a patio that gets full morning sun. It
made it through the winter just fine and the foliage reached a height of
just under 2 feet. I was delighted. Then I noticed that on some of the
stalks, the leaves were developing brown areas. The bases of the stalks
were thinner than the middle and tops, and when I tugged on one of the
afflicted stalks, it pulled up out of the pot. The base of the stalk
appears to have "mummified", it actually felt dry to the touch above the
soil level, and moist to the touch below, and withered away.
Can anyone tell me what I have done to my lovely plant? There are still
4 healthy looking stalks remaining, and I'd really love to keep it that way.
Could it be pests? I spray every 2 weeks with an insecticidal soap, and
once a month I add some Ortho Bug Be Gone at a recomended amount.
Could they be overwatered? I haven't really been watering them because
it has been so wet this spring. I could certainly move them to a drier
area of the patio...
Any ideas you might have would be appreciated. I have grown to love
this plant and I really don't want to accidentally kill it off.
Thanks,
Patricia
