Dendrobium Unknown species?
Thanks Eric, I am getting "de ja vue" again, I think last year one of
the guys from down under came up with a hybrid name??? Maybe I should ask if any of them have this in bloom? -- Cheers Wendy No Spam Email Address Invalid Eric Hunt wrote: Wendy, Looks like the Australian species Dendrobium tetragonum. -Eric in SF www.orchidphotos.org |

Dendrobium Unknown species?
Thanks Roy, not sure where to find this one as I got a small kieki from my mentor,
as he did from a friend. My geographical story goes like this:- A South African professor came to the USA & he aquired the plant from a friend while visiting Australia. He gave my USA mentor a keiki, & he in turn a keiki to me an ex S.African. -- Cheers Wendy No Spam Email Address Invalid Roy wrote: Wendy. Nice work!! Where did it come from? Dendrobium Unknown species?
Wendy, sorry to be so slow responding. To me it looks like a hybrid from the
Dendrocoryne section of the Dendrobes - includes such species as adae, fleckeri, gracilicaule, jonesii (aka ruppianum), kingianum, the speciosum complex, and the tetragonum complex to name a few. I would partially agree with Eric - I'm reasonably sure it has a lot of tetragonum in it. But I think there are other things there as well, and I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable to make any reliable guesses. Perhaps some of the other Aussies - John, Reiner, Peter etc could add more? Thanks for your input anyway Dave, so it seems like it is a hybrid,
not a species. The Den. tetragonum pics I have looked at are different. the petals & sepals are way skinnier & more spikey no? -- Cheers Wendy No Spam Email Address Invalid Dave Gillingham wrote: Wendy, sorry to be so slow responding. Agree with you and Dave, Wendy.
This is a hybrid - which one? I have no idea. Cheers John "wendy7" wrote in message ... Thanks for your input anyway Dave, so it seems like it is a hybrid, not a species. Wendy, that's right. And I've never seen a tetragonum - real or photo - with that sort of pink and pale apricot colouration over most of the floral parts. (I never do remember the collective technical name for them all.)
