I am green with envy!! I have wanted a Paraphal for the longest time, and
every time I think I'm close to finding what I want it's like Lucy, Charlie
Brown and the football.

That. Is. Gorgeous!

Fantastic! I have noticed mine had a tendency to blast if any water got
on the inflorescence; I see yours is hanging pendant from the mount. Did
you mount it upside down, or did you mount it upright and it's just
grown that way?

Diana,

They are hard to find, but I found 2 very small seedlings of a specie
Paraphal at Redlands last year. They're still alive, but they grow VERY slow
in the seedling stage.

I will "on the hunt" on May 19th for more. Please don't buy everything out
on opening day.

I have a flask of each of the paraphal species that I'll be potting up
shortly, and I suspect that'll be upside down in pots for the short term.
Is that going to be a problem?

The only one I've ever grown was a mature Pphl labukensis - 3 feet of
pendant rat-tails.

Hi Ray,

I have 2 seedlings that were and are still very small. I potted them in 2 in
clay pots with a small amount of coconut fiber. They are located in a shady
spot on the lanai and are sitting on a piece of carpet padding so they have
extra moisture around them. They have been in the pots for a year. I'm
thinking about mounting them in 4 in baskets, but may wait till they get a
little larger.

Also what are the 2 species you have?

Agree with Niek. How do you grow this Roy as I have managed to kill all the
ones I have tried? They certainly grow in a hot humid climate in Sarawak
and Sabah.

Hi John,

I mounted the plant in a 4 in basket when I bought it at least 6 to 8
years ago. I grow my plants on an open lanai in southwest Florida. The plant
gets a fair amount of sun and lots of air movement. During the summer it
gets lots of water. A little less in winter. I bring it in if temp drops
below 50 in winter.

Hope that helps

Hi, Roy,

Believe it or not, I think we are going to skip Redland this year. It makes
my teeth ache to say it, but we have an awful lot of potting to do. Time to
put things in better order.

I hereby bequeath to you all the plants I won't be bringing home!

This has helped a lot - living in a subtropical climate certainly helps
with this genus. That is definitely my problem and challenge. I guess I'd
better leave these ones to my colleagues living in Queensland. Victoria is
just too cold in winter and too dry in summer.

I will just enjoy looking at posting on ABPO or travel to Borneo again to
see them. Not that I need an excuse to go back.

Cheers

John
