Dendrobiun tetragonum the second
1 Attachment(s)
This one was labelled Dendrobium tetragonum giganteum x tetragonum 'Mt Mee Dark'
when purchased. Obviously one component is var, giganteum from lowland North Queensland, which I described in the previous posting. Given that Mt. Mee is just north of Brisbane, I'm guessing that 'Mt. Mee Dark' was a nice dark form of var. tetragonum. Compare the colour of this one with the previous. If you follow the massive taxonomic restructure in David Jones's 2006 book, the species Dendrobium tetragonum is accorded its own genus, Tetrabaculum, with each variety becoming a species in its own right (approximately). Thus: D. tetragonum var. tetragonum = Tetrabaculum tetragonum D. tetragonum var. melaleucaphyllum = Tetrabaculum melaleucaphilum D. tetragonum var. giganteum = Tetrabaculum capitisyork D. tetragonum var. cacatua = Tetrabaculum cacatua (aka var. hayesianum) Dave Gillingham ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To email me remove the .private from my email address. |
