This is the first bloom since I bought the plant at the Pacific Orchid
Exposition almost 5 years ago! Does it make sense that this one bloomed on an old, dried cane when there were two healthy, young canes? Tom Walnut Creek, CA Nikon D200 |

Not sure what section of the Dens crepidiferum belongs to, Tom. But you
probably are aware that with some the bulbs are deciduous in their second or third year, and they only flower from bulbs that have dropped their leaves. Section Dendrobium (the soft canes) are a typical example. Hmmm.... these have been sold under the names sulaweisiense, crepidiferum
and glomeratum. I can't tell the difference between them all. Mine blooms on the old dried cane. K Barrett "tbell" wrote in message .com... I decided to change mine from an upright growth habit so I hung it up,
allowing the new growths to go pendant and trail. I'm not sure it likes that since only the old (original, upright) canes continue to flower. The new growths are much shorter than the older ones, too. The thing must have been about 3 feet tall when I did that. One of the local hybridizers has done a few crosses with it.
