Default Humorous article about orchids and spouses

Now finally someone who understands orchidoholics! If I had grown them
20 years ago...who knows???

Ciscoe's To-do List: Hot-blooded spouse? There's an orchid for that

CISCOE MORRIS

Let your love of orchids help you pick the perfect mate

Looking for a mate? Before giving away your heart, make sure the person
you choose is compatible with the growing conditions of your favorite
orchids. If you love Cymbidiums, look for a Canadian. I'm married to one
and I've learned that Canadian women have an uncontrollable urge to
sleep with every window wide open, even in the dead of winter.
Fortunately, Cymbidiums require a cool, dry resting period in September
and October and will set flower buds only if they experience several
night temperatures in the 40s. Dendrobium, Epidrobium, Epidendrum,
Lilaia, Miltonia and Paphiopedilum also prefer cool night temperatures.
On the other hand, if your favorites are Phalaenopsis (moth orchid) or
Vanda orchids, you are better off hooking up with a Hawaiian.
Phalaenopsis and Vandas thrive and flower practically year-round as long
as nighttime temperatures remain above 55 degrees, but rapidly decline
if nighttime temperatures drop below 50. Give up trying to grow these
tropical beauties if you marry a Canadian. Even if they survive the
cold, they'll never survive the blasting fan that Canadian women insist
on running even on the coldest winter nights!
