TOO MUCH SUNLIGHT?????

My Dends are getting yellow leaves up the entire stalks and other
plants are getting puckering of the leaves. These plants are on the
patio outside and they get afternoon sun from about 1PM to sundown
(South west expoasure) here in SE Florida. I feel this is too much
dirct sunlight. Yes? No?

TOO MUCH SUNLIGHT?????

The question is way too broad. I've seen lots of Dens, and Catts, and
Oncids, which would enjoy that much sun, if they were acclimated to it. But
the very same plants, if previously grown much shadier and then suddenly
thrust out into that much light, would protest.

The symptoms could also have many other causes. The yellow leaves on the
Dens could just be natural senescence, at this time of year, if it's mostly
on the older growths. Or, it could be fungus (or even a bacterial
infection, if it's progressing very rapidly), or an insect problem, or
dehydration. The puckered leaves sound like dehydration.

Dehydration happens 2 ways: If the plants aren't getting enough water, they
dehydrate. If the plants have been getting too much water for an extended
period, their roots are likely rotted, and therefore can't transport water
to the foliage, which then dehydrates. To figure out which of these 2
problems is going on, you have to look at the roots. If they're dark and
mushy, the plants have been too wet for too long. If they're light and
firm, but thin and shrivelled, then they've been too dry for too long. Hope
this helps, Kenni
