"unhappy" Odontoglossum
Hello,
I have one Odontoglossum in my small collection and it is "not happy". I bought it a year ago with one flower spike. The flowers die within two weeks and since then it grew only one new bulb that has grown to about third of the length of the other bulbs, and lost two leaves (it have about 15 leaves). I have repotted it recently and the roots were thin about 1intch long (the leaves are more than 10Intch long). The roots had light brown color but were firm. The temperature in the fast three months was 60-70F and the humidity is 50% to 70%. I do not think that the plant is going to die but it is not as active as my Cattleya that has grown two new bulbs in this time and phals that some are in bloom and some are growing new leaves and roots. Any special tips for the Odon? Regards Gal |
"unhappy" Odontoglossum
I'm no odont expert, but I do live in a relatively warm climate (not as warm
as yours) and experiment with many genera. I find that the odonts do not really grow much during winter but more in spring (some in fall). I cool the greenhouse with cooling pads in summer. If you keep them cool (45-50deg nights) with your daytime temps there should be no problem. Water less in winter, but never let them dry. Also reduce fertilizer. If the new bulb is smaller, than the temps were too hot, fertilizer too low, or water not enough. I don't know how much this will help, but it's been my experience. "gal" wrote in message om...
