The Lost Secrets of Growing Magical Orchids

I want to tell you a story about a man who had a terrible case of
Orchid fever. He was obsessed with Orchids. This secretive orchid
hunter and cultivator devoted his life to their care and study. He read
everything, tried everything, and noted everything.
He succeeded in growing many a glorious hybrid but showed neither his
orchids nor his notes to anyone. Except once! Just once Anton
Thuranzsky allowed his 8-year-old daughter into his orchid house to see
his breathtaking collection.
When he died, his growing secrets would have died with him if his
daughter had not discovered his manuscript hidden underneath a
bookcase. Packed into her suitcase she took it with her as she left
Hungary for her new home in the US.
Written in his native Hungarian, it took her years of painstaking work
to translate, edit, test, update, and cross-reference his original
writing. And now, destined to become THE AUTHORITATIVE GUIDEBOOK on
orchid care, the book is finally ready.

To be fair, no other book will teach you how to grow -magical- orchids.

Hocus pocus, Presto--Changeo! Alakazam!

And you can grow them from seed, too!! You, too, can be a hybridizer in your
spare time, using only a bag of potting soil and a trowel!!

But wait! There's more..........!

Yeah, I was thinking about that when I first read it. I decided that
growing regular orchids is challenging enough. I'm not ready to try the
magical ones. :-)

If it is about magical ones I hope they have a chapter on surviving them.
That would be helpful

I figured he/she meant "enchanting", but if the author really means magical
I would say avoid them, although the difference in this case is one of
degree only. The magical ones are devious and they can't be trusted but
that sentiment is personal and requires a rather long explanation. I am not
altogether sure that their power comes from a wholly 'good' source. This
also applies to the merely enchanting ones as almost everyone in this
newsgroup might suspect. On the up side they can repot themselves, apply
their own pesticide, and actually *Curse* anyone who tries to remove their
tag from their pot, which can be somewhat amusing as long as it is not you
who tries to remove it or is considered to the pest.

If this book is written like the blogspot, it'll make a wonderful present
for someone with a sense of humor who already knows all he needs to know
about orchids, but does not currently have enough reading materials for use
in the bathroom. If I understand correctly the book will teach you how to
become a very rich match-making fungus for orchids that are "merely going
through a phase" (unless of course you're dead because you misread the signs
that it was time to repot). :-)
