Orchids and your GPS
 

Okay, so this lady drops by my greenhouse this afternoon and told me she was
from Baltimore and was driving through the DC area and while on the road she
typed "orchids" into her GPS system of her car and it told her where my
greenhouse was and then led her to me. She did not apparently type the
name of my business into her GPS, because she did not set out to come here.
Is that weird or what?

Does anybody else have a GPS system in their car that will do this? Can you
explain better how it works. It can't be connected to a phone book because
I am not in a phone book.

I wonder where the GPS would lead her if she had typed in pizza ??? Or any
other word for that matter. I have On Star in my vehicle, and it can't
lead me to any orchids.

I gave a Garmin Quest, and it does have a variety of "points of interest"
built into the map software.

Al's Orchid Greenhouse is there, as is Cooper Design Group, just east.

try typing 'space alien' into your GPS. The 'space' part is important.

I wish people would find me that way. We seem to be in limbo, with the Post
Office insisting that our mailing address is West Palm Beach, while the
phone company lists us in Palm Beach Gardens, and the signs on I-95 proclaim
that the access road is a Jupiter exit ... Kenni

one of my grocery stores claims to be in columbia; funny, when i drive
there the sign says "welcome to jessup." maybe the produce aisle is
in columbia; the rest of the store's in jessup. my barn is "in"
columbia, with a laurel zip code. a local shopping mall is in either
"north bethesda" (a non existent town), rockville or kensington,
depending on whether you're talking to the phone company or the post
office. i suspect the boundaries run right through the middle of the
place.
