As a matter of interest, who is planning to go to the Conference in Miami
next year?

I am going, but I don't think I'm registering for the whole thing - way
too expensive for me. But I do want to see the show and of course the
sales, and I'll probably bite the bullet and do a single-day
registration so I can take in Bob Dressler's trichopilia talk on Friday,
which is unfortunately at the exact same time as another talk I'd most
like to hear: the bulbo culture by Bill Thoms. But at least I'll be able
to go to Averyanov's lecture as it's earlier in the day. Maybe Bill
Thom's talk will be videotaped (as all the presentations should - of
course I'm dreaming here) and I'll get to see it that way.

The most important thing is that the old friend I stay with in Ft.L.
will have his new heated pool in by then, and a pitcher of margaritas ready!

Hand in air. Not sure which days we are going, but we need to make that
decision soon. I hope we can do a meet up!

John, I forgot to ask about your own plans. Will you be there, and for how
long?

No - Unfortunately won't be attending. I was just curious as to how many of
the readers of this group were likely to attend. To go to Florida takes
about 30 hours for us so you can write of 3 days just travelling. I am
planning to go to the next mtg in Singapore. The flight is only 7 - 8 hours
and I can then go onto my beloved Borneo for another trek through the rain
forests. Might even consider PNG as an add on.

Another meeting to consider for those of you who need your international
orchid fix every once in a while is the Western Australian Orchid
Spectacular in September 2008. This is the prime time to see the flora of
WA (including the most amazing terrestrial orchids) which is unique in the
world because of the region's (SW corner of Australia) isolation from other
habitable areas being totally surrounded by desert or ocean for thousands of
miles.

Info is on the Internet. Hope to see some of you there. I know Danny is
planning to come out and I look forward to showing him some of the orchids
of my region in Victoria as well. Others would also be most welcome.

Cheers

John

I'm wasn't going, but looking at the lectures, I am wavering. I will probably attend - as a full registrant.

Hi Kye

I would have to fly to Perth. Am keeping an eye out for QANTAS specials as
they have regular deals with significantly cheaper airfares. Probably a bit
early yet as the conf is still over a year away. The only problem with the
timing of the conference is that it clashes with the AFL Grand Final which I
usually go to. The only reason I would change my plans is if my team is
playing (unlikely on this year's form!).

Cheers

John

Considering that my wife to be has family in Perth, maybe I actually have a
chance of getting to this one. Do you have a link that you could post for
the event?

I've already registered, not sure how many days we will be down there.
Conference fees are a heck of a lot less than the hotel bill will be (need
to figure out where we're staying soon before everything fills up.)
