Default Congratulations to Al

All the RGO readers,

Al would be too modest even to mention this to you but he did good at the
NCOS show this weekend. Among the AOS awards he received for his really
great looking plants, his Renanthera was the best in show. It glows in the
dark when we turn off the lights! It was so huge I really felt sorry for
the judges who had to count the flowers for the cultural award he received.
I believe he got at least one other AOS award.

To top it off the large display that Al spent Friday working to build with
his team was also best in show.

All the hardware and the ribbons are really distracting.

If you're in the DC area you should come by tomorrow or Monday and see his
work.

Good Growing,
Gene

Congratulations Al! One of my dreams is to get a CCM on one of my plants.
How fun!

I have not been there since Thursday when we put in the display and
the first I heard about this was from Susan this morning, (who was in
charge of the display design and gets to take home the glass for Best
Display.) She sent me some pictures of the awards and award
description certificates, so I know the Ren Fire Coral got a CCE (91
points), yes, that's an "E" not an "M"...and the Phal appendiculata
got an HCC.

I thought that was kind of cute, she did not take pictures of the
plants, she took pictures of the ribbons and bows instead.... but
it was her first show in charge of the display.... Anyway, I will
try to get some pictures of the _flowers and display_ when I go back
down there tomorrow afternoon to take it all apart and bring it home
but I make no promises.

I would not have heard about it at all until tomorrow when I went down
there if it was up to Ken alone, because he likes to hide all that
stuff from me in the retuning boxes and let's me find it later in the
week as I unpack to put things away.

Al the modest.... (cough, cough)

Hi,

My pictures turned out all blurry and I was ashamed to post them.
Since the lighting was so dim at the show, I should have slowed down
some as I ran past all those pretty displays while clicking away.

This morning somebody drew my attention to a set of pictures posted on
Fliker of the NCOS 2007 show. These turned out to be taken by Ki,
(aka More Water). She has posted a set of 51 pictures from the show
and there are several from our display, Orchid Enterprise (aka Beam ME
Up Orchids). Here is a picture of the Renanthera Fire Coral:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ki/1510...7602312995859/

If you follow links on this page you can find the full set from the
show as well as a large set from my greenhouse and many wonderful
orchid and non-orchid photos sets taken by More Water in her travels
around the world.
