Motzarella not missing abpo...

I believe it was Steve that noticed this.
Just checked again this morning, and it is still there.
You might want to subscribe to the motzarella.* newsgroups
so you can look for announcements and ask questions when something
like that happens.

Sometimes a newsadmin has to revert to a backup copy of the list of
newsgroups temporarily to resolve an issue.
Sometimes a newsadmin has to audit the articles in the news spool
to resolve an issue. Unless the news servers are setup as a redundant
pool this can lead to the appearance that a newsgroup was dropped.
As abpo was added to motzarella about a month ago... it will be towards
the end of the list when it comes time for recovery.

For added joy, every now and then some of the news readers fail to
authenticate upon reconnecting to the news server.

When running a news server for an ISP, it pays to have as few
disruptions as possible (Not that any big ISP I've encountered
could actually manage it). Glitches like that lead to people
calling support and increase the head count required in the call

If you're an accurate typist, you can do the following for problem
for something you type

for something expected from the news server

telnet nntp

200 InterNetNews NNRP server INN 2.4.5 (20080614
snapshot) ready (posting ok).
authinfo user youruserid

381 PASS required
authinfo pass yourpassword

281 Ok

211 181 1 181

205 .

And you're then returned back to your cmd.exe prompt.

Make the cmd.exe window large enough and you can actually use this as
a newsreader in a pinch :-).

Email works in a similar fashion as well :-).
