We be fine on the east coast. We'll get lots of rain and a little wind
tomorrow. No need to hatchen the batches this time, LOL! West coast may get more activity. It looks like a Cat 1 for them. That's still not really such a much in the grand scheme of things. It all depends on whether it picks up strength overnight. If it gets a second wind (pun intended), then Tampa will most likely get the worst, and then the panhandle. Local weather has the storm picking up some wind and getting into Tampa late tonight or tomorrow morning. Here, we really will get just a tropical storm. Yet, they are opening local shelters. Another update:
We have had significant rainfall, but little wind. Southwest of us, there were tornados touching down. How come the tornados always know where the unstable buildings are? (Don't answer that.) There is an equine center in Palm Beach County that has been virtually destroyed; the horses are okay. The buildings were apparently not particularly well built. The weather radio started hollering around 4AM, when Igor (that's what we call the mechanical voice) began dooming and glooming. Unnecessarily, Frank said, "Did you hear that?". So we've been up for a while. The Vandas are fine; the wind, what there has been of it, is coming out of the east, and the house mostly blocks it, as the Vandas are on the west side, and get a southwest exposure for sun all day. Well, not today. The pool overflowed onto the patio, so the overflow valve is now open (and flooding the lanai floor). All in all, we're just fine. Power is on and we haven't lost much TV reception. (We have a dish, and sometimes in heavy rain we lose the satellite.) Don't know what's going to happen next with Fay. At the moment it appears to be swinging from west to east, so the Atlantic states may get a bashing. But nobody's really certain where it's going to end up. yeah, i'm reading on some horse boards that the vet clinic bldg that
got picked up and set down a ways away (with baffled horse left standing unharmed on the pad) may actually have been a temporary set of stalls; the permanent bldg seems ok. well, stay dry and keep us posted while the power holds out. :) --j_a |

Power is on. There have been numerous tornado warnings, but the only one
that I know of for certain is the one I already wrote about. This has been quite a rain event, more so than anyone predicted. A local radio station was giving a flooding update; there are many roads under water, cars stranded (I *have* to ask: what were they thinking?), one car washed away, etc. Our area is fine. If it ever floods here, the whole city will be under a lot of water. And of course, you had the doofus who decided to win the latest Darwin award by going kite surfing early today, down south of us, with predictable results. Very critical condition. I think the kite landed him on A1A. I hope he is not allowed to reproduce.
