C. bowringiana? Pictures
There is an interesting story to this plant. It was recently given to me by
someone I helped with an orchid problem. She has literally dozens of divisions of this; the parent plant belonged to her late father-in-law. He grew species, but the tag is long since gone. To me, it looks like bowringiana. The growth habit is right, the flower size is right, the base of the pseudobulbs is right, and the flower form and markings look right. And we all know that I may be as wrong as rain. The flower color is not true in the close up; it is darker than that, and closer to the color in the photo of the whole plant. Help? I need an expert opinion. http://www.flickr.com/photos/28721677@N06/2910801554/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/28721677@N06/2910828504/ Diana |

To me the lip looks wrong,
http://www.chadwickorchids.com/Cattleya/bowringiana.htm Chadwick's article has a different lip. And the swelling at the base of the pseudobulb should look more like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kbarrett/2910054759/ K "Diana Kulaga" wrote in message .. . I see what you mean. I can't go check the base of the pbulb right now - too
dark out there. I'll do that tomorrow. But here's another photo of bowringiana: http://www.orchidspecies.com/cattbowringia.htm That looks a lot more like the one I have here. Still no cigar, though. I don't think we'll ID this one. Too bad. She has dozens of them, and they are fabulous. Anyway, going back to Flickr showed me I needed to edit the name. Duh. Diana "K Barrett" wrote in message ... A follow up: The bases of the pbulbs are largely hidden (repotting right
after blooms go by!), but what I *can* see tells me that this is not bowringiana. What a shame not to have a name for these. Diana "Diana Kulaga" wrote in message .. . I see what you mean.
