We have a post going over on abpo just to see how much traffic there is.
So please sign up if you can still post images.
So far we have about a dozen people.

I'm on Bell South, and they simply ditched all the binaries groups. Of
course, we've discussed that ad nauseum, so I won't go over old ground.

Able to see and post pix.
Again, a suggestion: For $3/month, anyone can access all of usenet
including binaries, on usenetmonster.com. [If you're interested in this,
it's quite easy to sign up, they have step by step instructions. They have
two server locations: news.usenetmonster.com, and
bignews.usenetmonster.com. The latter is very fast.]

Didn't we beat this dead horse already?

If you want to post photos and get maximum distribution for them, post
them some place like flickr or picassa. Make sure they are
viewable even to non-members. Post the URLs with descriptions here.

1) If you are getting USENET via your ISP, odds are you won't get
binaries now. You also probably won't be able to send binaries.
2) If you are getting USENET for free from somewhere else, odds are
you won't get binaries now. If ABPO is available on the USENET server
you get for free, odds are what actually makes it in or out is quite sparse.
3) If you are paying for USENET, yes you'll have great access to
ABPO. However, most folks here aren't paying for USENET.

So, to repeat myself again. ABPO is effectively dead, use a photo
posting site such as flickr, or picasa, or facebook or....
I think it's great that Kye is doing his little news server, but
any off the shelf web content management system is better technology
than NNTP for distributing pictures. I'd probably actually use it
if it was a full fledged USENET leaf that carried the pile of other
newsgroups I read. I'll probably peer with it if I ever set up my
own NNTP server.

TWIMC,
I am not trying to revive abpo!!!! There are a couple of die hards
that are
able to post images so I simply wanted a head count.

Hi Wendy I've always enjoyd your pictures.
However people need to know about teranews It has all the binary groups and
its free 50 megabytes per day down unlimited up so you can post as many
pictures as you like. there's a $3.95 one time setup with no monthly fees

To select from a list of what they offer go here

Hi there "dusty",
I heard the problem lies in the fact that some servers have blocked
UseNet.
I do not understant all this as I had a computer guru set up my
computer/email/newsgroups
etc. I don't have a problem but was checking to see how many people can
still view &
post our group.
I am hoping someone else will jump in here to explain. It would be
wonderful
if the TeraNews worked for everyone.
Cheers Wendy

If your newsreader doesn work with Teranews then this one does but it is
not as easy to uses as some others.

Hi Wendy,

I also lost access to newsgroups, thanks to Comcast. I do miss it. Is
it still as active or has the group moved to another service.

Hi there Roy,
What a shame! There are still a few people at abpo & yes,
a lot have hooked up with Kye's private server, 121.208.41.118 &
orchids.pictures
where you would subscribe/setup just like you would for other groups.

Then there is our original group - rec.gardens.orchids but is text only so
people
post a link to various photo web sites.

Hey, Roy,

I don't know why more people aren't using the site that Kye set up, as Wendy
described. I haven't been doing much there lately, but only because I'm so
flippin' busy. I'll get back there.
