ok, i am SO over this rain thing. three inches yesterday (DC area).

what do you folks who grow outside do when it rains/drizzles 24/7 for
ten days? do you bring any of them in, or just spray down with
physan?

Opposite problem here. We *finally* are getting rained on. The 'chids are
loving it. It has rained every day here for the past week or so, generally
in the afternoon. That's typical of our rainy season, which is late
spring/summer.

Nobody I know (and virtually all of us grow outside here) brings plants in
when this is going on. For me, since we grow almost exclusively in Aliflor,
this is not a problem. It's pretty hard to overwater if you're growing in an
inorganic medium. Our Phals (most of which also grow in Aliflor) are under
the cover of a porch roof, so that's not an issue. Likewise the Paphs. Some
of our Oncidium types and Encyclias are in a blend of CHC and a bunch of
other stuff, and you might think they'd get waterlogged after a while, but
it's not a problem as long as the medium is fresh and light.

Starting now, our issue will be finding windows of time to fertilize. No
point in doing so if the stuff will be washed away or if the roots are so
thoroughly wet that little will be absorbed.

There is lots of air movement along with the rain, so things do dry out.

I need to be repotting. I also need to be topping Vandas. Now *those* are
problems!

Woundn't have a clue...sometimes it doesn't rain here in Texas for
months! I would love to see it rain 24/7 for ten days. I would love to
see it rain here for 10 minutes... only wish I had your problem. lol
But I wouldn't worry too much about it. The plants should do fine as
long as it is warm enough. Should have some nice blooms this Fall.

what it's doing out there now? yep, pouring.

Ooh, personal mold! Drench thyself with Physan immediately!! Alternatively,
buy many fans. The whirring kind, not the cheering type.

All that was brown around here (and lots of things were!) is now green.
Florida is really quite an amazing place.

We have had a couple of dry days, so tomorrow we'll fertilize. It is
supposed to rain again on the weekend. If it does, I'll do a hit of
fungicide on Monday, just to be on the safe side.

The Vandas, which get their water every day in any event, are ecstatic.
They've been blooming like fools for months, and now they are sending out
multiples.

Ah, orchids. The downfall of many an otherwise intelligent individual.

This is an odd spring in the midwest. Klehm family didn't even make my
farmers market. Scared off by 50 degrees and rain. Why would that stop
anyone from buying orchids :-).

We have had some strange weather here north of Philly, too. 55° when I
got up this morning (it IS June, right?), we get showers in between
pockets of sunshine and deluges - but the weekends have been gorgeous -
80"s, sunny, low humidity.

rainI was wrong about those dry days. We haven't gotten them, so no fert
just yet. Gotta pick and choose your times here in late spring and summer.
