Greetings,

Several weeks ago, I purchased my first orchid - from the phalaenopsis
family. I carefully repotted the plant and for two weeks it was doing
fine. However, in the past few days one of the leaves became limp and
soft.

Any one have any idea on what's happening? I've been doing my best to
'do it by the book'. However, I'm not sure what this is a symptom
for...

Welcome to our group Andrew. If you have been going by the book, I am
curious as to your
potting mix? Also the pot size & possibly too much water or leaving the
potted plant in a saucer of water?

Was it in flower when you bought it? Why did you repot it? How much water
are you giving it? How much light?

If the soil is moist, limp tops mean something bad is going on down below.
Knock it out of the pot now, don't wait. Exam the roots. Remove all that are
brown and soft. Dip in a fungcide such as Physan and repot in a new mix.
Could be the old mix had a pathogen or the plant was carrying one when you
bought it. In any case, give the plant a rest is a shady spot with a cover
for humidity. If your mix is too loose for Phals, the leaves may just be
reacting to reduced humidity/water at the roots, in which case they
shouldn't be soft & brown. Repot in a heavier mix and give shade & humidity
(heavier meaning more peat or coir or whatever fine ingredient you have in
your mix). Best of luck.

A lot of folks have given good tidbits of info, but you'll need to provide
more details for us to be reasonably certain of the suggestions.

What medium WAS it potted in / what condition were the roots in when you
unpotted it / what did you pot it in / how much water have you been giving
it?

And, it's just possible that nothing is wrong. Phals do lose lower leaves,
even if the plant is fine. But I agree that more info would help.
