I don't have any details, but "60 Minutes" is supposed to have a
segment on the orchid industry tonight.

It was a nice segment. This one was much nicer than the one on PBS about
the guy who went into the jungle.
I don't think I would pay $20,000 for an orchid, but to each there own....

I enjoyed it, loved the guy in a New York apartment with 2500 orchids in his
living room!!!
Also the Japanese awards ceremony!
Nice to see other people with the same intense fervor!
Cheers Wendy

Pretty good show. I cannot believe someone would spend $20,000 for one
plant, but then again I have a limited budget - who knows what I would do if
I had unlimited funds

If you contact the network, I am certain that they will sell you a tape.
Drop them an email and see what they say.

Several years ago, I saw the first (and apparently only) wild-collected blue
Phal violacea offered for $35,000. Theoretically, it's the source of all
coerulean violaceas, and thank goodness for meristemming and selfing, so
they're more affordable!

Yet another way that orchid growing teaches patience.

I asked my wife to watch it with me so she can believe I am not the only NUT
in the world.
She said she knew that already from all the shows I drag her to.
I did enjoy the 60 min segment.

Happy growing. You are in good ( but nutty) company !

I missed it too! Had a meeting for a charity event we're helping
organize. I just checked out CBS.com and found they have what I
*think* is the transcript of the story:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/...in567357.shtml
Too bad my computer sucks, it looks like there might be some video
there, too.

I know it was a paph sold by Terry Root, and they said that a paph he sold
won the Japan Grand Prix, so could it have been Paph. Rolfei, as shown in
the July Orchids mag?
