Algae on greenhouse walls

I have a "small" 8ft square polycarb panel greenhouse that every year
needs to be cleaned of algae. I was wondering, as I get ready for
another round of scrubbing and rinsing, what other people do to keep
their greenhouse walls clean and free of algae?

I just got finished scrubbing and bleaching the floors in my GH too. Luckily
I didn't get much of any algae on the walls that couldn't be taken care of
with a sponge and the same soapy/bleach solution I used on the floor. I
think most folks with larger GHs use a power washer on their poly carb. (The
term may actually be pressure sprayer). I used a wire brush and elbow
grease - but then I was cleaning a brick floor, not plastic walls! LOL!
Smells much better in there now.

This has been discussed numerous times.
I have a Lexan liner in a glass house. If I use a wire brush, or even a stiff
brush on this , it will scar the surface.
I keep the algae under control by spraying down the walls, benches, and walks
every week with one % bleach. Although I make no effort to spray the plants,
they receive some, and I have not noticed any problems with this in over ten
years.
Washing down the walls with a power washer is not a good idea with multi
layered coverings, as the water tends to get between the layers and then the
inner surface is dirty, and there is no way to get to it.

Try a power washer, fast and does a great job.

Thanks to Willford and Ken. I ask this because one never knows if
someone has come up with an innovative solution to this perennial
task. Wilford I understand what you mean by water getting bewteen the
mulli layered covering as this has happend in a few places in my gh
even when using a low pressure sprayer. Guess I will have to apply
more elbow grease:) The roof will be the worst.

I don't bother. I like the extra stuff on the glass even if it is unsightly
as it cuts down on light getting in.

Adds to the effect the shade cloth has.

Hey Bo, if you have it on the walls then it's more than likely on your floor
as well!
Better watch out you don't want those Vanda roots turning green on you! *G*

Unfortunately, algae is a good attractant for snails, slugs, and all sorts
of bugs - nothing like a nice fresh salad!

If one thinks that that's good, as it will deflect the advances toward your
plants, forget it - it brings them right into the vicinity.

And as Wendy said, if it's on the GH covering, it will be elsewhere
eventually. I emptied my greenhouse this summer in order to power-wash the
thing - covering, inside and out, structure, benches, RO unit, water tank -
you name it. What a LOT of work! You can betchurass I'll do a better job
with the preventive sprayings from now on!

Yes Ray, I'm with you here & remember Wilford's discussions on this before.
He uses 1% bleach, so I figured this out to:-
1 cup bleach to 3 gals water? Does this sound right?
I am going to allocate a day in the month to do this. I have just been
washing the floors with bleach in the past.
Cheers Wendy

1 gallon is 128 fluid ounces. I used one ounce per gallon - close enough at
0.78%.

1 cup is 8 fluid ounces, so 1/2 cup in 3 gallons is 1.04%.

The biggest impact is on the plant growth. After we power washed
the walls down the plants took a growth spirit and the
inflorecences just popped up all over.
Besides the effort of emptying and moving everything, I never get
everything back where I want it.
