Advice needed potting oncidiums

Hi everyone! I have a couple of oncidium intergenerics that I'm going to
repot today. What size pot should I use in relation to the size of the
plant? Do they like to be rootbound? Thanks!

Hi, Sarah,

Try to use a pot that is just deep enough to hold the roots and a little
potting medium. I use a mixture of bark, perlite, and charcoal. Also
oncidiums do well with indirect sunlight. An hour or two of direct
sunlight whether afternoon or morning seems okay. But, don't overpot.
Don't overwater nor underwater. The leaves and bulbs will somewhat tell
you if they are too wet or too dry.

Some of the smaller oncidiums seem to do well mounted -- i. e., Onc.
twinkle.

Sarah,

First of all, you might consider S/H culture for those, as they totally
thrive in it. I have all of mine in 4.5" or 6" S/H pots because they're
relatively tall for the diameter. The plants also don't seem to mind
overpotting.

Thanks Ray and Pam!

Hi Sarah, I guess there are other ways to grow Oncidiinae
Intergenerics. We grow a few hundred thousand. I have found that they
like to be pot bound. We grow in a 4" pot and let them overgrow their
pot--then divide & repot. We grow in a medium coconut chip & pearlite
mix & never let the plants dry out or be too wet. Spray every week
w/1% hydrogen peroxide and fertilizer @ 125 PPM nitrogen. Hope this
doesn't confuse you too much G Bill
