I ordered (on line) an orchid seedlings in 3.5" S/H pots, and the
following link is a picture of it.

The root system does look very bad. Any chance to nurture this
seedling back to health and how? If not what should I do?
Thanks,
Cu

Cu,

What you're seeing there is a plant in the process of losing it's old root
system as new roots, acclimated to semi-hydro culture, grow to replace it.
It's a perfectly normal process.

You can read more about it at http://www.firstrays.com/semi-hydro.htm,
especially the "Root and Culture" piece.
