Need sources for "mounting" media like cork, fiber or wood

I want to mount some orchids on materials like cork, fiber or wood but
haven't been able to find any of these materials locally.

I've looked on the web but all I've found is the "standard" potting
media.

Can anyone recommend a source for mounting materials, preferably one
you've purchased from with good results.

I live in Detroit, MI and I'd prefer someone nearby but I'm willing to
order from companies that ship.

Thanks for any help.

Hal,

Check out Tropical Plant Products in Orlando Florida
www.tropicalplantproducts.com

That's where I have been ordering all kinds of orchid stuff. Their cork is
large boards and reasonably priced.

Good growing,
Gene

Oak Hill and Hausermann's both stock cork slabs. Natt's in
Naperville. I don't remember if EFG had it. That leaves Windsong
and Klem's in the Chicagoland circle.
Most of the large Orchid ranges will stock cork or "driftwood".
If you want it inexpensively, go to the lake shore. Collect,
clean and sterilize drift wood.

For your area I'd try http://www.orchidmix.com/
Find others with a Google search for the item you're looking for.

Hal,

A good source for both orchids and media; i. e. cork is Oak Hill Gardens
in Illinois. They ship at a reasonable price, too.

When I started doing mountings it took me a while to find good places
to buy from. I buy in bulk as well as small chunks on impulse and I
buy alot of it. Tree fern as well. I also mount to anything that isn't
movin to fast. Just got back into town after a nice vacation where I
picked up nice pieces of driftwood and am soakin them now for more
mounting. (My wife had bags and bags of shells so I felt I should be
able to pack the car with a few chunks of wood)
Here is a small list of places I have bought from and had a good
result.

That should give you a nice varied selection of places and stuff to
chose from.
