Scale/Mealybugs and Orchids

Hello All,

This year proved to be a very "mixed bag"
for summering parts of the collection outside.
The really extended wet period wreaked havoc on
the phals.

Now that the time has come to bring all
the plants back indoors, I'm finding that I have
a major development of mealybugs on some of my
catts and scale on the dendrobiums.

On other plants I'd just do the alcohol
"scrub" and dose them with systemic insecticide.
While I can do the former on the orchids, the
latter isn't (to my knowledge) possible at home.
Does anyone have suggestions for control of these
two specific pests that doesn't involve endless
iterations of careful inspection and hand cleaning?

Brian, who has several plants coming back into bloom

Any acephate insecticide [Orthene, Orthenex, Isotox] or Liquid Sevin. Spray
outdoors and let plants dry before bringing inside. Use gloves, etc., per
label precautions.
