Anybody growing this species. I got a plant a few years ago from the Little
Greenhouse. It was doing great, flowered several times. I repotted back in September of this year and the plant has gone down hill. Now the leaves are all dried out and the psudobulbs has shrunk. I removed the plant from the pot and most of the roots are dead. Only one live new root. Any ideas. |

I keep my dendrobium atroviolaceum in basic cattleya conditions.
good drainage, a lot of light and regular water and fertilizer. I've found that it likes to dry up just a bit between watering and doesn't need any rest. Mine is still young but a great grower. I got 8 new pseudobulbs this year and two have just started to grow. I do let it cool down a bit in winter. Basicly I give it intermediate temps but during the winter months it doesn't seem to mind night temps of 10°C. Just make sure the leaves are dry or they will rot. I've found that this plant prefers to be repot just before new root growth starts. Also i think it's sensitive to the quality of pottingmix and water. The roots don't seem to be as strong as cattleya roots. Hoop this helps Cheers Peter "TRAINMAN9" schreef in bericht ... Anybody growing this species. I had been growing it basically the same way with a medium fir bark mix
containing charcoal and perlite. I repotted back in September and while I expected the plant to react to the disturbance I did not think it would go completely downhill. Yeasterday I repotted it into seedling mix and put in in a shady and cooler area of my greenhouse. Hopefully it will make new roots and recover. |
