Congratulations Keith,

1.....Location. Make sure it is set up in a spot that gets the sun on it all
day.
2.... The cost of heating? If you have natural gas then pipe it in.
3.... A good solid foundation, concrete is easy to keep clean. I also like
at least
a 2' Pony Rail (the g/h is built on top of this which makes it higher & of
course then
you have to ajust for the door) Higher is nice because you can hang plants.
4... Start saving for the heaters, coolers, fans etc. & orchids*G*

Yes. I like my gh set in the ground so the ground level is just
below the top of the "pony rail". I think it gives better heat &
cold control. Of course you have to have a way down to floor
level to get in and out then. Or you have to come out of the
basement and have a way up to floor level, as this will be about
1/2 way between basement and first floor levels.

Of utmost importance in my book is a temperature alarm system for both high
and low temperatures that sounds inside your house and is loud enough to
wake you at night and one that has a battery back up. I had to learn the
hard way. A power failure in the summer and a heating hot water pump
failure in the winter. I put in the alarm after cooked orchid summer but in
the winter it wasn't loud enough and the greenhouse went down to 36 F or
2.2C when I discovered it.

You got to yours earlier then we got to ours. We had plastic
pipe for mister lines. When it froze - it broke, when it thawed
and started to leak into the house - we found it. Now we have a
display several places and a monitor.

It's a fair investment ($200 on eBay), but I'd recommend a sensaphone
attached to a thermalarm.

The Thermalarm handles both hot and cold setpoints, and I've got my
Sensaphone set to go off in my home office, and if I don't reset it there,
call my home phone if there's a problem. If nobody acknowledges the call by
putting in a password, it then calls my office. Failing that, my cell
phone, and there's an option for a 4th number as well.
