London Orchid Society genus names and classifications document
Well, it has taken a few months but I finally have this document in
shape to be used at our show - good thing too since the show is in two weeks (see http://los.lon.imag.net/shows.asp ). The document lists 3,251 natural and man made genus names I have come across in various documents and books. Each name has indications of whether the name is an error (i.e. spelling mistake) , a synonym of another name. a list of component genera if a hybrid, the document I found it in, etc. For the names that are "valid" (please let's not get into a discussion about which taxonomists feel a name is valid or not) I have the class or classes that a plant of this name could be entered in at our show (see classes in our show schedule at http://los.lon.imag.net/sched04.asp ) . These classes will be brought back into line with the Mid-America Orchid Council suggested classes next year. With that many names merged from a large number of sources I am sure there are bound to be a couple of "keyboard errors" so if any of you eagle eyes want to take a look at it, please let me know if you find any problems. Hope it adds more clarification than confusion to the huge array of genus names out there. The document can be found at http://los.lon.imag.net/MiscFile.asp Enjoy!! |
