That seems a little harsh. Do I detect a personal bone to pick?

Just a touch, had a nice group of cow horn orchids on a piece of property that I enjoyed watching for years (South Floorida), until some sob came in at night and cleaned out the whole lot of them....I have no patience for unscrupulous wild collectors. Get permission, sample some and make clones whatever but don't strip mine an entire colony.... Rant Mode Off Ray... Dave |

I'm not suprised about the comment that Miami is lax. I think some other entry
points are as well. A few years ago we bought some plants from a grower in CT. When we were going through the greenhouse we spotted some nice looking but newly imported plants. It was obvious that although they were labled 'huntlea' that they were indeed 'phrags'. The person who was waiting on us would only let us have three pots and charged us $35 each for the plants with multiple growths. It turned out, just as we thought, when they bloomed, they were Phrag. caudatum's and very nice examples as well. |

I fully understand how having your place robbed would **** you off!
I had some Cyps growing in my yard here in PA that did the same kind of walkabout. I still wonder where they go the shovels to dig themselves up. -- Ray Barkalow - First Rays Orchids - www.firstrays.com Plants, Supplies, Books, Artwork, and Lots of Free Info! .. . . . . . . . . . . plant police and law enforcement in general. Almost every day, I read about deliberate obstruction of justice, mal- and mis- feasance as well as downright theft, murder, assault and other abuse by members of our law enforcement agencies (including prosecutors, judges, and the FBI). They no longer deserve any of the trust previously reposed in them, and I am far more likely to believe anyone on the wrong side of them is on the right side of the law. rant I cannot believe anyone goes into rant mode because someone in a place of power is found out. It looks like - and this is what gives me the willies - you would actually prefer that these guys were not found out, and that this would make you trust these people more. To me, it looks like you want a system that doesn't catch these people - who will always be attracted to positions of power - just so you could have some peace of mind. Hear no evil, see no evil... I hope you didn't actually mean what you said. /rant Geir |

I can only hope I find these jokers at some time. It would be interesting hearing them explain why they need to steal plants off a grave. Geir |

But Geir. You're assuming that the charges are valid in the first place. I
agree with Tennis that the "innocent until proven guilty" theorem is being badly trodden in this country under George II and his cronies, or should I say "puppeteers." -- Ray Barkalow - First Rays Orchids - www.firstrays.com Plants, Supplies, Books, Artwork, and Lots of Free Info! .. . . . . . . . . . . When someone says they have read about obstruction of justice yadayadayada by someone I tend to assume that they have something substantial to go on, like the video of Rodney King being beat up. It is hard to keep up on current events in the US here in Europe, and I am not sure I am all that interested in doing so after having been exposed to the superbowl halftime hysteria, just to take an example. I find life is a more pleasant experience if I assume that people know what they are talking about - at least until they prove otherwise. I may have been wrong in this case, of course. Geir |
