Anyone catch the orchid show in NYC?

At the New York Botanical Garden?

I went yesterday and I just wasn't as impressed as I thought
I should be. I can't quite put my finger on why. I think they
were spread out too much. I want to see orchids packed into
every square inch of a space not spread out over a quarter
mile of assorted rainforest and such.

I'm more impressed with my local nursery. One big greenhouse
stuffed to the gills with plants.

Mini rant - people were pawing all over the poor plants. WTF?
I even saw one girl pluck a phal and put it in her hair! Grrrrrrr!

Sure, I was there I posted about my disappointment over last weekend.

Is there an orchid nursery that is local to NYC?

Funny, my sister in NY sent me a link to an ad for the show. It showed a
very run of the mill white Phal; you'd think they couldn have done better.

I missed it. So I'm not crazy in thinking that the
orchids were, well, pedestrian overall.

I go here. LOVE it - more in my neck of the woods

I went yesterday and I just wasn't as impressed as I thought
I should be. I can't quite

They used to get several growers from Brazil to exhibit and also sell. The one
year I attended before they moved it to the WTC we were able to buy up all the
plants in their display along with what they had left at their sales area.

I guess the timing was not good considering the Phila Flower Show was going on
at the same time.

Hopefully the April Orchid show at the Rock center is not going to be
disappointing. I'm taking lots of cash with me :)

No, you're just thinking of the wrong show. The show that used to be
at the NYBG and then moved to the World Financial Center has now
moved, for the time being at least, to Rockefeller Center and won't be
starting until April 14 (see
www.gnyos.org). That one will have
vendors from all over including but not limited to Brazil, and as
usual great exhibits from the vendors as well as area societies.
The "show" they're talking about it something else entirely and would
be better called a "special exhibit" or something.
