Default South Florida Cold

I live in a stilt house here on the Florida Keys. Orchids (about 1200) grow all
around. I'll bring in those in bloom this afternoon but
do not expect the 40s to damage any plants except some Madagascar things which will
also come inside. I have
collapsible shelves for the front bedroom which hold everything for the occasional
hurricane. Only brought everything
in one time in 26 years due to predicted cold ( 30s).

I have a mesh green house that I cover in plastic during the cold weather. With
the forecast for freezing temps this weekend any ideas how to best protect
orchids that are outside.

Thanks,

Gene

I'm curious if anyone has ever tried to use that heated tape you wrap water
pipes with to keep them from freezing? I doubt they sell it in Florida.

Here in zone 5, we always struggle to keep the garden alive as long as
possible, and I've often wondered if running a section of that stuff down
the bed would do any good. I don't think its cheap though...thats the down
side.

Default South Florida Cold

Live in Miami Beach.
Lots of on tres (palms) and hanging baskets.
I have wrapped burlap around them and watered.
Last night I only watered. Around 8 pm and again at about 10. I soaked the
ground well thinking that the humidity would help.

The guys at RF, told me that they soak they're green house floors and it
never drops below fifty. They're pretty far inland and it got pretty cold
last night, so I'd love to know how they did.
