Default A very stupid question!! maybe not so stupid....

Hello everyone!

Ok, this Saturday, I`m going to buy my new fixture for new lighting!
I have decided that I`m gonna buy 6 shop light fisture, two shoplight with 4
tubes for each shelf of my unit.
I have also decided that I`m going to use 2 40W 48 inch of Cool white and 2
40W 48 inch warm light because coll whit have more blue light and warm more
red!

Here is the question: Does it matter the order I`m going to install the
tubes!
I mean should I put : Warm, cold, warm cold
or Warm Cold cold warm
or Cold warm warm cold
or Cold warm cold warm

I told you that can be a very stupid question!

thanks

Claude

I have my tubes installed CW-WW-CW-WW, and I also try to shuffle the plants
around when I water for a little divertisy.

Claude,

Certainly not a stupid question.

Although all sources of light produce some heat, fluorescent tubes
produce less heat than normal incandescent lamp (and that´s the main
reason why they are more efficient) However you have to take care of
where you place the ballast or "reactancia".

If you have only one shelf you dont have to worry about temperature
place everything above the plants.

Regarding the order of the tubes IMHO there is no reason to worry about.
What I think it does matter is the number of each kind of tubes that
you will combine ie 2C + 2W or 1C+3W or any other possible combination.

You could also calculate what would be the feet candle received on the
shelves but you have to consider a lot of things (lumens provided by
each tube, type of lamp, color of the walls, and of course the
distance). Also the tubes only provide their nominal lumens when their
are brand-new. Few days after that the power of the tube is not the same
as the first day although your eyes cannot perceive that. So, I would
recommend you to buy a light meter.

Hope have been of help

The quesion on foot candles is difficult to answer because foot candles is
a measurment of light source and distance to the object recieving the light
1 foot candle is how much light reachs a wall from a candle one foot away.
I tried a search to find a formula to convert light output (lumins) to foot
candles but all I got was sights on Marijuana Cultivation. Very strange
indeed.

Nope.

Does the tube generates lots of heat?

Some heat, but not too much. I do make sure, though, than leaves don't
touch the tubes.
