Hi all:

The water supply that I use for watering the orchids comes pumped up from an
underground well.. Recently I was made aware that the water has higher than
normal amounts of sulfur (sometimes I can smell it!!). I was wondering if
there are any negative effect(s) from using this water on the orchids...

Thanks

Dada

P.S. Hope this post goes through... the last one didn't... that what I get
for getting a cheapie provider I guess!!! time to change...

Shouldn't be an issue.

THe question is really more about the TDS count than just the sulfur. If the
sulfur is high, what else is high? Hard water tends to be no good from what
I've seen recently.

dada,

The sulfur smell is probably from hydrogen sulfide gas.
If you run a glass of water and smell it, it is strong right away, but
dissipates quickly and if you smell it a half minute later the fragrance
will probably be gone.

You said your water source is from a well. If a city well they can give you
the analysis. If it is from a private well you may be able to take a sample
to a pet shop or an orchid greenhouse for analysis.
If that doesn't work the pet shop can sell you a kit that will test many of
the things you want.
