Frances and AOS HQ
I have heard about AOS HQ's survival during Frances.
The Building is intact with only minor damage. The contents seem fine. The gh lost the ridge vents, but no other glass. The problem is lack of power (fans, water, etc) controls. The gardens lost about a quarter of the trees, not the live oaks. Most of the damage is from broken branches and things (mounts) torn out of the trees. The Hut is OK. They will be closed at least a week for cleanup. No phones, computers, or other communication. Now we can only hope our members that got hit come out with only clean up necessary. I guess we can not expect Kenny, Diana, and others to pop up very soon. SuE http://orchids.legolas.org/gallery/albums.php |
Some of Pasco county Florida wasnt hit really bad , although we were out of
power for 36 hours , being a florida native , I am pretty used to dealing with these hurricanes and tropical storms , and I hope everyone fared as well as we did . Great to hear that AOS is still alive and doing well after the storm and
the Florida growers as a whole are still thriving. Hopefully, Hurricane Ivan will stay low and out of Florida's way. Have heard of some grower's losses, though, and our sympathy is extended. There must have been over a billion in lost yachts -- oh, only they had me to steer a yacht or two northward and out of danger -- seriously, I love boats and could not believe all the people who could not get down to Florida to rescue their multi-million yachts. That was a real tragedy! .. . . Dear Group,
Now we can only hope our members that got hit come out with only clean up necessary. I guess we can not expect Kenny, Diana, and others to pop up very soon. Back Up in Sarasota. Lost one roof, 100' x 40', did not knock over a single plant in that GH, but the Orchids were well watered for three days. The other houses fared well. Lots of trees down, but will have good stock of mulch and firewood for the winter. Still standing in water, but the sun is out, the birds are singing, and life is good. OK, Next Ivan. Cheers. Wow! I guess you guys were lucky? Maybe by just the roof coming
