Default rot ???

Hi everyone !

I am writing on behalf of a friend of mine. She grows her orchids in
orchidarium. Lately, pretty many of her plants show signs of rot. She has
lost about ten flowers during the last two weeks. Leaves are
falling off very quickly. They are brown at the base and there is some
yellow colour above the brown part. It doesn`t look like a "normal" root,
when water stays at the crown, because the inside leaves, at the crown seems
to be ok. First fall the leaves that are far from the middle. There are
also some yellow stripes at the middle of the bottom side of the leaf. She
didn`t change anything in the environment recently, like temeperature,
humidity or watering schedule. She didin`t introduce new plants too. Can it
be some kind of virus or other disease ?

All comments are welcome
thanks in advance
greetings from Poland

samaki,

If you could tell us what kind of orchids she has, how often she waters
them, what she fertilizes them with and how often, whether or not she mists
them and if so at what time of day, and at what temperature she keeps them
at night and day then maybe someone will respond to your question.

She might also tell us what the rotted areas smell like if she chushes them
in her fingers. I have some kind of fungus or rot (glomerella) that has a
"sweet rotton" smell. It has killed around 90 orchids, all in the
miltoniopsis family.
