Bud Blast on Ang. Leonis??

Hi Everyone,

I acquired an Angraecum Leonis back in August. I was so excited when
in October it put out two spikes. However, in the past few weeks each
of the unopened flower buds started turning brown on the tails and
yellow on the bud. Any ideas?

It gets lots of light in my gh. Daytime temps range between 70-85
daytime. Lowest nightime temps at 57-60, as it sits on a higher
shelf. It's in large bark and gets watered about once a week, feeding
weakly weekly with flushing once a month.

Thanks,
Lori

Don't know if this is the problem or not, but mine stays a bit warmer at
night and does not loose buds; about 65 to 68. It was just in bloom on
three spikes and had several flowers per spike. If I allow it to get too
dry while buds and spikes are growing I see that it gets 'impacted' buds, so
i make sure it does not dry out during this period. It is planted in an
open basket so it tends to dry to where it needs water a few times a week.

Good luck with it, it is a beautiful flower when it makes it that far. :-)

Thanks for the advice, Al,

It is in a 3.5" green plastic pot. It is in the southwest corner of my
gh with some other angraecums ( magdalenae, sesquipedale, vetcheii)
and mini-catts. Shade cloth was on until just after the time change.

I have one bud left. Brought it inside the house and placed it in a
bright window, hoping that the warmer nighttime temps will get this
bud to open. Looks good so far.... no yellow-brown discoloration
occuring on the end of the tail and no yellowing of the bud.

When I bought it, it had just been repotted at the orchid nursery. I
debated on whether to repot it when I got it home (I didn't). When it
finishes blooming (hopefully!) I will then repot it in my own
preferred mix; and in a clear pot.
