Newbie Question - Will if flower again?
 

Hi
A few months ago I purchased a beautiful Phalaenopsis Orchid with two
stems and white flowers.

All of the flowers have since fallen off.
Each stem is about 14" vertical and 10-13" horizontal.

I know absolutely nothing about Orchids except that it would be nice if
it would flower again.

Green buds appear at the end of the stems.
But as they get bigger they turn yellow and fall off.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Cut off the stems about an inch above the leaves. The plant won't flower
again for quite a while. Feed every other watering with half strength mix
of say, Miracle grow.

BRight light but no direct sun. Keep moist but NOT WET.

In the meantime Google Phalaenopsis Orchid and read all about em!

Newbie,

Before cutting them off check the roots for rot.

Tip the pot and gently pull the plant out. Smell the potting mix. It it
smells bad, not just moist and earthy, it needs repotting. Look at the
roots. If they are brown or black and mushy cut them offunless they are all
like that. Then just pull the musy stuff off and you will be left with a
"wire" that will help anchor the plant in the new mix.

You can buy orchid potting mix stores selling orchids or at many stores
selling "Shultz" products. Put some plastic packing peanuts (one layer in
the bottom of the pot) and then repot your orchid.

If a spike breaks during this process cut it off close to the plant.

A few phal are sequential bloomers so I wait till the spike turns brown and
dries up before cutting. An ecception to this is if most of the roots are
bad. Then remove the spikes.
With proper care your orchid will rebloom in about a year.
