dendrobium damage

My dendrobium nobile "atsuki" fell over the other day and broke the tops off
of the two new shoots coming out. The shoots (canes) were both about 4"
long and when it fell it broke the top 1.5" off. The older bigger canes are
naked with no leaves. Will they (the new ones) continue to grow or is the
plant toast?? Both new canes have 1 to 2 leaves below the point where the
tops snapped off.

Thanks

Neither one. The broken canes will not continue to grow (but, with a
slight chance of a keiki like growth continuing on) and the plant is not
toast either. New growths (canes) will certainly grow from the bottom as
they would if the accident had not happened. They may start very soon
since the growth was stopped early, on the broken parts, or they may
wait until the next growing season. I would bet on soon.
