Orchid roots turning white and soft
 

Is there a way to bring it back? Pretty sure it's been overwatered.
Some kind of white mold has set in. Removed the roots with the worst of
it, and I'm keeping it dry. Still hope?

I wouldn't cut them off unless their clearly bad (black or flat &
hollow looking). Change the growing medium(no matter what you use) I
use sphagnum moss and it works well because you can tell when it's dry.

We need more information. What kind of orchid is it? What was it potted in?
Does it have any good roots? How does the plant look, overall?

Only removed the hollow looking, clearly infected roots. Worried the
rest will follow suit. Without changing the soil, someone suggested
adding cinnamon. A remedy?

It's a white orchid, not too big, not too small. Not sure which kind.
Know there are quite a few (!) Sorry. Plant is potted in soft dark wood
chipping it looks like. Some roots look good. Petals have fallen off,
stems have been dying, green turning light brown starting from the top
and moving down, and large leaves at the base have been slowly fading
in color.

We need more information. What kind of orchid is it? What was it potted in?

Is there a way you can take a picture of this plant? If so, post it at
alt.binaries.pictures.orchids. It's really difficult to tell what's going on
without knowing what this plant is. Still: you mentioned "soft, dark wood
chips". If the bark is soft, it is most likely broken down, and the plant
needs repotting.

Here are a few suggestions. First and foremost, if there is an orchid grower
anywhere near you, make tracks for it with the plant. Also, do some web
research. Look up Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium and Cattleya, and let us know if
your plant fits into any of those three categories, for starters. Finally,
see if you can find a local orchid society or an agricultural center and
pick their brains.

I'm sorry to be vague, but it's tough to diagnose this way. Let us know how
it goes, and do try to post that picture.
