Repotting kekis
Help, I am a beginner and very timid in this aspect of orchid culture.
I have a Phal. that has completed its blooming (gorgeous) and I noticed 2 keikis on 2 of the flower spikes. They each have firm green roots but for one that is twisted and shrivled, but with a green tip. The roots are aeriel and from 1 " to 4" or 5" long, on each keiki. My question is ha many aspects. Can I remove these keikis and repot them and how much of the spike do I remove with the keiki assuming I am going to remove them? Help!! Do I bury the aeriel roots? A you can tell, I am one scared dude here. In the natural world nothing is done to the keikis so do I repot or leave alone? Bob |

This is largely a matter of personal preference, but also depends in part on
your location/growing conditions. It sounds like your keikis are big enough to take off, if that's how you decide to go. They do not need any of the spike to come with them, but you may find it easier to cut the spike close by than to twist them off. But you might want to consider leaving them in place. If you have a warm, humid environment, they will grow quite nicely just as they are, and then when they bloom along with the mother plant, you'll have a really impressive display. -- Kenni Judd Juno Beach Orchids http://www.jborchids.com "bob" wrote in message oups.com...
