How to make compost
g'day maynard,
when! i make compost i use the pile/heap method, make sure it has good moisture level, cover it with plastic sheet or something, and leave it. i don't bother with turning piles that's way too much work and for me appears to be un-necessary. i have used compost tumblers but for the money they cost they just didn't work for me, can't see the value in them. home made compost bins worked well, need to make sure they get plenty of sun. other than that most of my composting occurs in my garden beds, when i have lots of green material i shred it then lay it on top of the beds cover with mulch, and 2 weeks later i can plant seedlings into it, the worms are well and truely working it by then. my garden beds are my worm farms as well, had a worm farm but again just an extra job to do and the results were too slow for me. len On Wed, 16 Jul 2003 22:08:52 +1000, "Maynard G Krebs" wrote: What is the best method? -- happy gardening 'it works for me it could work for you,' "in the end ya' gotta do what ya' gotta do" but consider others and the environment http://hub.dataline.net.au/~gardnlen/ |
