reverse Reyn plan for inevitable future fuel crises?
Cheap fossil fuels between the wars brought cheap grain imports to
Sweden, further ruining farming opportunities constrained before by wartime hardship, while a wave of industrialism, fueled by that cheap energy, began to sweep Europe. Swedish peasants were being starved off their farms by a grain price floor felled by boatloads of imported grain. A trade unionist initiated a unique three-party business-union-government partnership which retrained idled peasants for opening trade opportunities in Swedish cities' burgeoning industrialism. As we approach the end of cheap energy, with oil reserves' dwindling about to appear over the tiny business planning horizon, thus skyrocketing oil prices, with oil's competitors gas, coal and electricity right behind in price shocks, the forces that drove Swedish peasant farmers from their land will reverse. Perhaps we can prepare by planning and/or creating organic business-rural small government-smallholder trade union tri-partnerships again, in Reyn's early 1940's model. Brian Cady |
