Plants, people and evolution
A meeting in honour of Barbara Pickersgill, Linnean Society of London, 4 August. Topics: *Smith Lagenaria siceraria: Genetic and archaeological evidence for the early history of domesticated bottle gourd. *Vaughan Rice, people & evolution: From prehistory to the biotechnology era *Waines Domestication and Crop Physiology: Roots of a Green Revolution [wheat] *Nesbitt Wheat domestication: a critical re-evaluation of its archaeology and genetics *Wendel Genes, jeans, and genomes: plant exploration and the wonders of cotton *Zohary The impact of self-pollination on early crop domestication in the Near East *Casas Evolutionary ecology of columnar cacti under domestication in Mesoamerica *Hughes Backyard sympatry, spontaneous hybridisation and crop domestication in pre-Columbian Mexico – insights from Leucaena (Leguminosae) *Barrett The evolution of sexual diversity in Daffodils (Narcissus) There will also be posters on wheat/millet ancient DNA, etc. It's not too late to book a place, but it would be helpful if anyone thinking about coming books soon, as this will help us decide which meeting room to use.
