Default Post-doctoral position INRA Dijon FRANCE

POST-DOC position

A one-year post-doctoral position is offered in our laboratory in Dijon,
France (http://www. dijon.inra.fr/pme) in the field of :

OPTIMISATION OF SULPHUR ASSIMILATION IN LEGUMES

The project is aimed at the optimisation of sulphur assimilation by
legumes, whose seeds constitute an important protein source for human
and livestock diets. Sulphur deficiency is an emerging problem in
European agriculture, due to improved emission controls, and sulphur
nutrition is also crucial in determining seed composition.
The focus will be on the interaction between the model legume Medicago
truncatula and the fungal endomycorrhizal symbiont Glomus intraradices,
and the role this may play in promoting sulphate acquisition by the
plant. The development of wild-type plants will be compared with that of
plants mutant for sulphate transporters, with and without inoculation by
G. intraradices, and with variation of sulphur supply. The ability of
the putative transporters to transport sulphur will be tested via
complementation of a corresponding yeast mutant.
The objectives are a better understanding of the role of endomycorrhizal
symbioses in sulphate acquisition and transport by legumes, and a
characterization of the sulphate transporters likely to be important for
seed protein accumulation. A range of techniques will be employed, from
high-resolution proteomics, through transcriptomics, and S- flux
measurements. The outcome of the project should be to provide new
insights into the management of inputs for sustainable agriculture.
The candidate has to be non French citizen and less then 35 on the 31 of
December 2009.

Position start: September-October 2009
