Default GeneSilencing

I would be very grateful if you could bring the following postdoctoral
position to the attention of staff who may be interested in this area.

Postdoctoral Researcher in gene-silencing and gene-knockout in Agaricus
bisporus.

An innovative Molecular Mycologist/Plant Molecular Biologist is
required to join the Prof Gary Foster/Dr Andy Bailey research group looking
at gene silencing and gene-knockout in the cultivated mushroom, Agaricus
bisporus, on a three year post funded by BBSRC.

The UK has a significant role not only in mushroom production but also in
mushroom science. The main technical objectives of this project will be the
development of gene-silencing and gene-knockout technologies within Agaricus
bisporus, with the main scientific objectives centred around the study of
sporophore senescence and overall during mushroom development. The exact
role of a range of genes will be studied using mushroom strains in which
these genes have been silenced or knocked-out using the technology developed
within this project, in addition to expression profiling using promoter-GFP
fusions. The work described in this proposal will benefit the science used
in understanding mushroom biology that will eventually filter through to
improvements in production. This project is part of an ongoing collaboration
with Horticulture Research International, with close links with Dr Kerry
Burton and Dr Mike Challen.
You should have a PhD and expertise in the relevant techniques. You will
need to have good organisational skills, be reliable and approachable, with
good communication skills. Must be a willing team player but with an ability
to be proactive and work independently. The following would be advantageous
but are not essential: experience or gene silencing, and/or gene knock-out,
experience of molecular biology, cell biology and/or development, gene
expression and analysis, experience of fluorescence microscopy, and any
other knowledge or experience relevant to the project.

Applicants should send a CV and enclose a letter drawing attention to any
facts which in their view make them especially suited for the appointment.

The closing date for applications is 9.00 am on 11th August 2003.
