Hello to all...
I have two potted podocarpus (podocarpi?) In Charleston SC and need some information on caring for them (I don't know the specific species). Specifically: How much water and how often Any fertilizer and when When/if they flower How much cold can they stand Anyone who can help, I would appreciate it! Jeff Birch |

help with a podocarpus
Do you know what species you have? There are a couple of rather large
specimens of P. macrophyllus on the Texas A&M campus, zone 8. This suggests that if you can get them to a fairly large size, they ought to be fine unless you have a freak freeze. (A little Googling suggests hardiness to zone 8 to 10) AFAIK, they aren't fussy as to fertilizer and are rather shade-tolerant. They will not flower, being gymnosperms. There are separate male and female plants, if I remember correctly. If you have one of each sex, you may see fleshy-arilled seeds on the female when it is old enough. M.
