Tree Leaf Identity please?

I have a tree in my yard - it is about 9 feet tall now I suppose... but
I have no idea what it is... I have never seen it flower or bear fruit
or anything like that... Can anyone identify what it is from this
leaf? The photo is a scan and it is a little deceiving - the lobes are
deeper than they look in the photo - it sort of hides that when it is
pressed flat between the glass of the scanner.

Thanks..

Looks like an American Elm.

Not an elm. In elms the base of the blade generally
is clearly unequal.

Perhaps it's a hawthorn, _Crataegus_ sp.?
They're pretty diverse in leaf shape, but serrate/lobed
leaves a bit like this leaf are common. Is the tree thorny
at all?

cheers
